Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has been in the news recently for expressing interest in remaking the classic film Sholay. This iconic film was originally written by the legendary scriptwriters Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar. In a promotional video for the documentary series Angry Young Men, which is about Salim-Javed, Salman was asked which of their films he would like to remake. Without hesitation, Salman chose Sholay.

Salman even joked that he could play multiple roles in the remake, saying he could handle playing Jai and Veeru, the two main heroes, as well as the infamous villain Gabbar. This playful comment led to laughter among those present.

Javed Akhtar, who was also part of the discussion, shared an interesting tidbit about the original film. He mentioned that several actors had shown interest in playing the role of Gabbar, the villain made famous by the late Amjad Khan. Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjeev Kumar both wanted to take on the role, but Dharmendra, who played one of the heroes, was content with his part and did not express interest in playing Gabbar.

The documentary series Angry Young Men focuses on the impact of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar on Indian cinema. During the trailer launch, Farhan Akhtar, Javed Akhtar’s son and a filmmaker and actor himself, talked about how the film Sholay and other works of Salim-Javed were deeply influenced by their personal experiences. He highlighted that the characters they created, like Vijay, became memorable because they reflected their real-life struggles and perspectives.
