Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol have long been celebrated as one of Bollywood’s most iconic on-screen couples. Their chemistry in films has been so magnetic that many fans have speculated whether their relationship extended beyond the screen. This was especially true for Varun Dhawan, who, as a child, was convinced that Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol were a real-life couple.

In a delightful twist, this childhood belief of Varun’s was humorously shared during an episode of the popular comedy show “Comedy Nights With Kapil” in 2015. Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan, and Kriti Sanon were on the show to promote their film “Dilwale,” and the conversation turned to the pair’s legendary on-screen partnership. Host Kapil Sharma recounted how his mother had also believed Shah Rukh and Kajol were married after watching “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge,” which sparked Varun Dhawan to share his own amusing story.

Varun Dhawan revealed that as a child, he too was convinced that Shah Rukh and Kajol were a real-life couple. This misconception led to a memorable incident when Varun was involved in a charity drive. He and his friends decided to visit Shah Rukh Khan’s famous residence, Mannat, thinking they might collect a substantial donation. However, when Gauri Khan answered the door, young Varun was confused and troubled. “Mujhe kuch galat laga uss waqt,” Varun recalled, feeling something was off. His childlike confusion was palpable as he wondered why Kajol was not answering the door at Shah Rukh’s house.

Shah Rukh Khan, known for his quick wit and humor, couldn’t resist poking fun at Varun’s innocent mistake. Mimicking Varun’s probable reaction, he joked, “Tum kaun ho? Kajol ke ghar mein kya kar rahi ho tum?”—which translates to “Who are you and what are you doing in Kajol’s house?” The room erupted in laughter as everyone imagined the young Varun’s bewilderment.

It was only later that Varun discovered from his mother that Gauri Khan was, in fact, Shah Rukh Khan’s wife, clearing up the confusion he had as a child. This anecdote not only highlights Varun’s genuine admiration for the iconic duo but also adds a layer of endearing humor to the story of their legendary on-screen partnership.

Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol have shared the screen in a string of memorable films such as “Baazigar,” “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge,” “Karan Arjun,” “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,” “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham,” and “My Name Is Khan,” cementing their status as one of Bollywood’s most beloved pairs.

In the current entertainment landscape, Varun Dhawan is also making waves. His debut web show, Raj & DK’s “Citadel: Honey Bunny,” co-starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu, is set to release on November 7. Additionally, Varun is gearing up for his role in “Kalees,” directed by Atlee and featuring Keerthy Suresh and Wamiqa Gabbi, adding more exciting projects to his ever-growing portfolio.
