Actor Sunita Rajwar is ecstatic over her film Santosh being selected as the UK’s official entry for the Oscars in the Best International Feature Film category. Rajwar, known for her roles in Kedarnath, Bala, and Gullak, expressed her joy in an exclusive interview, calling the news “a gift from the universe.” She noted how unique this recognition is in her 24-year-long career, saying, “Yeh toh chappar phaad ke milne wali baat hai.”

The film, directed by Sandhya Suri and starring Shahana Goswami, revolves around a newly widowed housewife in Uttar Pradesh who takes up her late husband’s job as a police constable. The film touches on significant social issues, including the murder of a young Dalit girl, and premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.

Rajwar shared her hopes that Santosh will be released in India, adding that it might take time for Indian audiences to appreciate the film’s raw and realistic portrayal. With fingers crossed for an Oscar win, she says, “We will celebrate once the trophy is home.”

This recognition marks a major milestone in Rajwar’s career, as she continues to fight against being typecast, particularly in roles reminiscent of her popular character, “Bittu ki mummy” from Gullak.
