In a candid chat with Cyrus Broacha on his podcast, Ishitta Arun didn’t hold back while revealing how Bollywood stereotyped her mother, Ila Arun, thanks to her deep, husky voice. According to Ishitta, the industry only offered Ila one kind of song—completely sidelining her from the mainstream, “heroine” tracks. She said, “The poster girl is always someone like Shreya Ghoshal or Lata Mangeshkar”, pointing out how the industry glorifies a specific type of soprano voice, leaving powerful voices like her mother’s behind.

Ila Arun, a legend known for hits like “Choli Ke Peeche” and “Ghup Chup”, apparently faced the struggle of being typecast her entire career, despite her immense talent. Ishitta even confessed that witnessing her mom’s experience made her steer away from pursuing a singing career herself. She said, “I didn’t want to constantly fight to prove my voice is great.”

It seems like Bollywood isn’t all that glitters, especially when it comes to embracing unique talents. The revelation has surely struck a chord with many, opening up conversations about the industry’s narrow standards when it comes to accepting different vocal styles.

Stay tuned for more juicy details from Bollywood’s biggest insiders!
