Anupam Kher, known for his versatility and commitment, opened up about the physically demanding role of a 69-year-old character aspiring to compete in a triathlon. Kher shared the intensity of the journey with Vijay 69, which asked for everything from him—”blood, sweat, and tears.” For the actor, this film was a test of endurance. Speaking about one particularly trying night at Mumbai’s historic Gateway of India, director Akshay Roy recounted a jaw-dropping incident that highlighted Kher’s dedication: while rehearsing for a scene involving cycling on a bumpy road, Kher suffered a dislocated shoulder. The director vividly described watching the monitor as Kher suddenly disappeared from view, only to discover he’d injured himself. Despite being advised to go to the hospital, Kher insisted on completing his scenes. Roy reflected, “This film is as much Anupam sir’s film as it is mine.”
Chunky Panday, who plays a key role in the movie, also shared his experience working with Roy and Kher. Panday mentioned that although he hadn’t been told the full storyline initially, he connected deeply with his character and felt that his role held a special place in Roy’s vision for the film. His perspective brought added depth to a story about resilience and age-defying courage.
The recently dropped trailer on Netflix India’s Instagram hints at a powerful, heartwarming narrative that follows the journey of Kher’s character, Vijay, as he challenges societal expectations, competing in a triathlon at the age of 69. This slice-of-life drama, produced by YRF Entertainment, promises a mix of humor, inspiration, and soul. Vijay 69 releases on November 8 on Netflix.
