Kangana Ranaut has recently voiced strong criticisms against films that, in her view, glorify violence and contribute to societal chaos. During a promotional interview for her upcoming film Emergency, Kangana targeted Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s 2023 blockbuster Animal, which features Ranbir Kapoor in the role of a violent and vengeful criminal.

Kangana’s critique was sharp and direct. She argued that films like Animal glorify extreme violence and stir up dangerous societal consequences. “Even now, just look at the kind of films that are making waves at the box office. These patriarchal films create chaos,” she said. “It makes you wonder where all this applause and cheering is coming from. If young men start taking axes and going on murderous sprees, with no law and order to restrain them, what will happen? It’s as if the entire legal system has collapsed. These films shed blood and pile up bodies just for the thrill and intoxication of it all. There’s no sense of public welfare, no concern for society or its boundaries. It’s just aimless violence.”

Kangana’s comments reflect her concern that such films are not only entertaining but potentially harmful, promoting a dangerous view of violence as thrilling and acceptable. “What’s happening in these films?” she asked. “Young men are shown taking machine guns into schools as if there’s no police or consequences at all. Law and order seem to be dead in these stories, and the violence just piles up. Why? For fun and excitement. These films don’t serve any public good, any national interest, or societal welfare. It’s just about having a good time.”

In response to the success of Animal and Vanga’s interest in working with her in the future, Kangana made a pointed remark. “Please don’t ever offer me a role in your films, or your alpha male heroes will start behaving like feminists, and then your movies will flop. You make blockbusters, and the film industry needs you,” she said.

Currently, Kangana is focusing on her new project, Emergency. In this film, she not only stars as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi but also takes on the role of director. The movie delves into the tumultuous period of the Emergency imposed by Gandhi in 1975, a controversial chapter in Indian history. Set to release on September 6, Emergency is highly anticipated for its exploration of a significant and contentious period in India’s past.
