Bharat Dev Verma, a descendant of the royal family of Tripura and husband of veteran actress Moon Moon Sen, died at the age of 83 in Kolkata on November 19, 2024. According to reports, Verma’s condition deteriorated, and while an ambulance was called, he passed away before reaching the hospital.

Born into royalty, Verma was the grandson of Indira Devi, daughter of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaikwad III of Baroda, and Ila Devi, a princess from Cooch Behar. Ila Devi was also the elder sister of Gayatri Devi, the iconic Maharani of Jaipur.

In 1978, Verma married Moon Moon Sen, herself the daughter of Bengali cinema legend Suchitra Sen and Dibanath Sen. The couple became prominent figures in Indian aristocratic and film circles, with Moon Moon later transitioning into Bollywood and regional cinema. She took up acting after giving birth to their daughters, Raima Sen and Riya Sen, both of whom have established themselves in Bollywood and Bengali cinema.

Bharat Dev Verma’s legacy intertwines Indian cinema, aristocracy, and cultural history, leaving a significant mark on both spheres.
