Renowned as the ‘Lady Superstar’ of Indian cinema, Nayanthara recently opened up about a significant phase of her life when she quit films during her relationship with actor-director Prabhu Deva in 2011. The Jawan star candidly shared her thoughts with The Hollywood Reporter, shedding light on her emotional state at the time.
“I was in a phase where I believed that I have to compromise if I want love in my life. I was too vulnerable and young,” she admitted, reflecting on how her understanding of love led her to make life-altering decisions.
Drawing from her experiences in the film industry, Nayanthara added, “We have seen so many different relationships in our industry. I am not calling it bad, but it’s the way we have seen the industry functioning for a very long time—like second marriages. The girl in me genuinely thought that if you need love in your life, you need to compromise somewhere. You need to give it your all. If your partner doesn’t like you doing something, you should just sacrifice.”
However, the experience was not without its silver lining. “If not for that particular relationship, I don’t think I would have found the strength to be what I am today. After that, I was a whole different person altogether,” she shared, crediting the lessons learned during the relationship for shaping her into the resilient individual she is today.
Nayanthara eventually found love with director Vignesh Shivan on the sets of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in 2015. The two tied the knot in a grand ceremony in Mahabalipuram in June 2022, attended by luminaries like Shah Rukh Khan and Rajinikanth.
This revelation offers a glimpse into the personal sacrifices Nayanthara made in her journey, further cementing her status as one of the most inspiring figures in Indian cinema.
