In a candid revelation, Bollywood icon Rekha shared that her journey to stardom was never part of her plan. Despite her reputation as a timeless diva, Rekha confessed she initially had no desire to become an actress, being forced into the industry due to family responsibilities and financial hardships.
Reflecting on her early struggles, Rekha recalled a difficult time when she had to support her family, including six siblings. “I had to take charge. Things were tough at home, and my mother insisted I enter films,” Rekha revealed in a heartfelt conversation with Simi Grewal. Young Bhanu Rekha (her real name) never dreamed of being a star, stating, “At that time, all I wanted was to get married, be loved, and have children.”
Navigating the film industry as a vulnerable teenager was not easy for Rekha. She described her early days in Bombay as terrifying, comparing the city to a jungle where she felt unarmed. In an interview with Pritish Nandy, she opened up about feeling lost and exploited by those around her. “People did try to take advantage of my vulnerability. I felt I should be in school with my friends, not working.”
