Ishaan Khatter is all set to charm audiences with his upcoming romantic-comedy drama series The Royals, where he will be seen portraying the role of a young prince named Aviraj. Co-starring Bhumi Pednekar, the series will showcase Ishaan in a regal avatar like never before. Ahead of the highly-anticipated release, Ishaan candidly opened up about one of the biggest challenges he faced while preparing for the role — mastering the sport of polo.
In a recent conversation with Hindustan Times, Ishaan revealed that learning to play polo convincingly within just two and a half months was the first “impossible” task set before him. The actor admitted it was a “daunting and scary” experience, but he feels proud of what he has achieved. “Now that we have completed the task, I am happy to report that we really managed to get as good as I possibly could. It was a whole lot of fun,” he said.
Ishaan also spoke about the emotional depth of his character, explaining that while Aviraj and he share an intense emotional nature, they differ in coping mechanisms. Unlike Aviraj, who bottles up his feelings and struggles to escape himself, Ishaan said he is learning to handle emotions better as he matures.
Further reflecting on working in a longer storytelling format, the Dhadak actor emphasized how OTT platforms like Netflix allow actors to dive deep into their character arcs. Ishaan highlighted the artistic challenge of conveying complex emotions within a limited timeframe, praising the layered storytelling of The Royals.
Directed by Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana, The Royals boasts a star-studded ensemble cast including Bhumi Pednekar, Zeenat Aman, Sakshi Tanwar, Milind Soman, Dino Morea, Nora Fatehi, Chunky Panday, and more. The series is set to premiere on Netflix on May 9, 2025, and promises to be a captivating tale of love, power, and self-discovery.
