Twinkle Khanna recently opened up about relocating to London and how her husband, Akshay Kumar, supported her dreams. The actress-turned-author graduated from Goldsmiths, University of London in January 2024 and credited her husband for standing by her decision to shift abroad with their daughter, Nitara.
In a conversation with FICCI FLO, Twinkle shared insights into her upbringing, highlighting how her unconventional family shaped her perspective on independence. “Seeking permission wasn’t a part of my life. I was lucky that Akshay supported me in moving to London, but even if he hadn’t, I would have still done it. It would have been difficult and traumatic, with a lot of yelling and screaming,” Twinkle revealed candidly.
The former actress initially aspired to become a chartered accountant after completing her 12th grade. However, her parents – the late Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia – steered her toward Bollywood, where she starred in films like Barsaat, Mela, and Baadshah.
Twinkle returned to education at the age of 49, pursuing her master’s degree. Inspired by online courses taken during the pandemic, she embarked on full-time studies, culminating in her recent graduation. Following this milestone, Akshay Kumar took to Instagram, calling her a “superwoman” for managing family, career, and academics simultaneously.
Twinkle Khanna last appeared on screen in Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega (2001) and later produced films, including Pad Man (2018). Now an acclaimed author, she has written bestsellers like Mrs Funnybones and Pyjamas Are Forgiving.
