Bollywood’s original “serial kisser” and cult-favorite actor Emraan Hashmi is back in the headlines — and this time, it’s not just about his upcoming film Ground Zero. While fans are already buzzing about the official announcement of Awarapan 2, the actor has now dropped another bombshell: a potential sequel to his iconic 2008 hit, Jannat.

In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, Emraan Hashmi confirmed that work is indeed underway for Jannat 2. The actor, known for his intense performances and unforgettable music-driven films, revealed that the team is taking its time with the script, determined to create something truly worthy of the original. “When we feel we have a strong script that truly picks up from where the last film left off — and we’re not just making a sequel for the sake of it, then we’ll announce it,” Emraan said.

The 2008 film Jannat, directed by Kunal Deshmukh, was a crime-romance drama that blended love, ambition, and the murky world of match-fixing. With its gripping storyline, Emraan’s charismatic screen presence, and chart-topping music (who could forget Zara Sa and Judaai), the film became an instant favorite among fans. Naturally, talks of a sequel have long stirred anticipation — and now, those dreams may finally be turning into reality.

While the actor remained tight-lipped about the plot and cast, he made it clear that the sequel won’t be rushed. “Right now, we’re making sure Jannat can return to the big screen with the same impact,” Emraan emphasized, hinting that when it does come, it will be worth the wait.

Meanwhile, Awarapan 2 is already in motion. In an interview with Ranveer Allahbadia, Emraan revealed that shooting will begin in July 2025, with scripting currently in full swing. The film, which is slated for release on April 3, will continue the emotional and gritty saga that began with the 2007 cult classic, directed by Mohit Suri. A teaser, dropped on March 24, already has fans in nostalgia mode, featuring Emraan’s voice-over and flashes of scenes with Shriya Saran from the first film.

With two of his most beloved franchises coming back, 2025 is shaping up to be a massive year for Emraan Hashmi — and for every fan who’s waited over a decade to revisit the world of Jannat and Awarapan.
