As Baahubali 2: The Conclusion celebrates its 8th anniversary today, fans are once again revisiting the grandeur of SS Rajamouli’s cinematic masterpiece. Released on April 28, 2017, the film redefined Indian cinema with its scale, storytelling, and performances. One of the most remarkable aspects behind the scenes was lead actor Prabhas’ immense physical transformation—a journey that remains an awe-inspiring chapter in Indian film history.

To portray the dual roles of Amarendra Baahubali and Mahendra Baahubali, Prabhas had to undergo a massive body transformation. For the elder Baahubali, he gained over 20 kilos of muscle, weighing more than 100 kg at his peak. Later, for the son’s character, he had to shed the bulk and adopt a more athletic, lean physique. The shift required strict training and major dietary changes over a period of more than four years.

Understanding the physical demand of the roles, the filmmakers gifted Prabhas gym equipment worth ₹1.5 crore. He trained under award-winning bodybuilder Laxman Reddy, and pushed himself to extremes, even performing many of his stunts without a double. According to reports, the actor was so disciplined that he would often return to training immediately after wrap-up shoots.

The effort paid off not just in his on-screen presence but in the film’s legacy. Baahubali 2 went on to earn approximately ₹1810 crores worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing Indian film at the time and setting benchmarks in visual storytelling. Today, as fans celebrate eight years of this epic, Prabhas’ dedication remains a shining example of what it takes to bring larger-than-life characters to reality.
