Mumbai, April 23, 2025 — At the highly anticipated trailer launch of Netflix’s upcoming series The Royals, actress Bhumi Pednekar addressed swirling rumors about her being cast opposite Imran Khan in his much-talked-about Bollywood comeback. While fans eagerly await Imran’s return to the big screen after nearly a decade, speculation has been rife that Bhumi will be the female lead in the project. However, the actress kept things coy, saying, “I never speak of anything until it’s officially announced.”

Bhumi’s response neither confirmed nor denied the rumors, but her strategic vagueness has only fueled further buzz among fans and media alike. Industry insiders hint that the project is in the works, with shooting likely to begin soon. According to a report by HT City, the film is expected to go on floors by the end of April, with a formal announcement from the streaming platform likely in the coming weeks.

The upcoming project, still untitled, is reportedly being helmed by Danish Aslam, who earlier collaborated with Imran Khan on the 2010 romantic film Break Ke Baad. Joining the cast alongside Bhumi and Imran will be Gurfateh Pirzada, known for his performances in Netflix originals. If reports are to be believed, the film will premiere on Netflix sometime in 2026, though an official confirmation on the release timeline is still awaited.

Meanwhile, Bhumi is currently focused on her lead role in The Royals, a contemporary romantic comedy with a regal twist set in the fictional town of Morpur. Bhumi plays Sophia Kanmani Shekhar, a bold, self-made CEO, while Ishaan Khatter portrays Aviraaj Singh, a modern-day prince reluctantly caught up in palace drama. Directed by Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana, the series is set for a May 9 release on Netflix.

While Bhumi’s next confirmed venture is royal in spirit, all eyes remain on whether she will soon share the screen with Imran Khan, whose comeback is one of the most awaited returns in recent Bollywood memory. Until then, fans will have to wait for Netflix’s official word to see if this on-screen pairing becomes a reality.
