The recently released action drama Jaat, starring Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda, has landed in controversy after a section of the Christian community raised objections over a particular scene set inside a church. The community has called for an immediate ban on the film’s screening across theatres, alleging that the scene is offensive to their religious sentiments.
The contentious scene features Randeep Hooda, who plays the film’s antagonist, engaging in an act of violence inside a church while standing under a crucifix. Worshippers are seen praying in the background as Hooda’s character intimidates them, a portrayal that has sparked outrage.
Representatives from the Christian community have submitted a formal memorandum to the Joint Commissioner, demanding the film be pulled from theatres and legal action be taken against the makers. Protest slogans such as “Randeep Hooda Murdabad” were also raised during demonstrations. Community leaders have issued a 48-hour ultimatum to authorities, warning of mass protests if no action is taken.
Directed by Gopichand Malineni, Jaat also stars Vineet Kumar Singh, Regina Cassandra, Saiyami Kher, Ramya Krishnan, and Jagapathi Babu. Despite the controversy, the film has garnered attention for its high-octane action sequences and star power, though critics have pointed out weaknesses in its screenplay and direction.
Filmfare’s review rated the film 3 out of 5, calling it “a guilty pleasure for die-hard action fans” while praising Sunny Deol’s timeless action appeal and Randeep Hooda’s menacing performance.
As tensions escalate, all eyes are now on the film’s producers and the censor board to see whether any edits will be made or if the film faces a ban in certain regions.
