After years of fan anticipation, Awarapan 2 is finally on its way, and Emraan Hashmi has confirmed that the sequel to the cult classic will begin shooting in July 2025. The actor, who is currently riding high on the success of Ground Zero, opened up about the sequel’s development and the love the original film continues to receive even 17 years later.
In an interview with News18 Showsha, Emraan shared that the script of Awarapan 2 has been in the works for nearly two years. “We didn’t want to make a sequel just for the sake of it,” he explained, emphasizing the care and depth that has gone into building a story worthy of following up the original. The actor also spoke about the film’s enduring popularity. Recalling a memorable fan interaction, Emraan said, “A guy in Dubai came up to me with an Awarapan tattoo—a pigeon and freedom. That really struck me. I texted Vishesh and Mukesh Bhatt that we must have done something right.” The film, originally released in 2007, has gained cult status over the years.
On his birthday, March 24, 2025, Emraan made the official announcement with a nostalgic video that featured scenes from the first film. The clip concluded with the words, “Awarapan 2. The Journey Continues…” He also revealed that the film is slated for theatrical release on April 3, 2026.
