As the much-anticipated box office clash between Hrithik Roshan’s War 2 and Rajinikanth’s Coolie looms on August 14, Hrithik recently shared a touching anecdote about the Tamil superstar that reveals the deep mutual respect between the two icons. During a recent event, Hrithik was shown a nostalgic still from the sets of the 1986 film Bhagwan Dada, where he acted as a child alongside Rajinikanth.

Reminiscing about those days, Hrithik called himself an “ignorant boy” who had no idea he was working with a legend. He went on to share how Rajinikanth would often shield him from scolding during filming mishaps. “Whenever I messed up a shot, my grandpa would cut it. But Rajini sir would take the blame and say, ‘Sorry, sorry, my fault.’ But it was always me who made the mistake,” Hrithik said, recalling the superstar’s humility and gentleness.

The War 2 star admitted that, as a child, he didn’t fully comprehend Rajinikanth’s legendary status and would casually chat with him on set. However, he added that if given the chance to work with Rajini now, things would be different, as he now truly understands the weight of collaborating with someone of such stature.

Meanwhile, the upcoming release of War 2 and Coolie on the same date has stirred excitement and tension among fans and industry watchers alike. Despite the looming box office battle, both stars have kept things respectful and have not commented on the clash directly—only reaffirming their admiration for one another through stories like this.

With two of Indian cinema’s biggest names going head-to-head, August 14 is set to be a landmark date at the box office. But if Hrithik’s story is anything to go by, behind the scenes, there’s nothing but admiration and legacy shared between these two cinematic giants.
