Television actor Shubhangi Atre, best known for her role as Angoori Bhabhi in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain, has broken her silence following the untimely demise of her ex-husband, Piyush Poorey. In an emotional interview, Shubhangi said she felt “numb” after hearing the news of his passing on April 16, 2025, due to liver cirrhosis. She also revealed that she spoke to him the very same day and had prayed for his recovery.
Shubhangi shared that she will soon travel to Indore to be with Piyush’s family and that their daughter, Ashi, currently studying in the US, will join her after completing her final exams. Despite their separation, Shubhangi maintained a cordial relationship with her ex-husband and his family.
Opening up about the reason behind their divorce, Shubhangi addressed speculation that her rising fame led to the separation. Refuting such claims, she revealed that Piyush’s long battle with alcohol addiction caused irreparable damage to their relationship. “They assume I left him due to my success, but that’s not true. Our separation was a result of years of struggle,” she said. She added that although he had undergone rehabilitation, his addiction proved too strong.
The actor further revealed that she tried for years to save the marriage and that both families were involved in helping Piyush, but nothing seemed to work. Concerned for their daughter’s emotional well-being, Shubhangi eventually made the difficult decision to part ways, a process that began around 2018 and led to their official divorce on February 5, 2025.
Despite the heartbreaking end, Shubhangi said she chooses to remember the good times and has continued to support his family during this period of mourning. Her candid revelation sheds light on the struggles behind closed doors and her strength in choosing what was best for her family.
