After two gripping installments, Yash Raj Films is back with the third part of its much-loved Mardaani franchise. Titled Mardaani 3, the upcoming crime thriller will once again see Rani Mukerji stepping into the role of the fierce and relentless cop, Shivani Shivaji Roy.
According to a recent report by Mid-day, the actress officially began shooting for the film on March 26, 2025, at the iconic Golden Tobacco factory in Vile Parle, Mumbai. The production team reportedly spent a full week at the location, capturing several intense scenes with the lead actress.
The shoot has now shifted to Yash Raj Studios in Andheri, where key action sequences are being filmed. A source close to the production revealed,
“Abhiraj has lined up some pivotal action scenes for this leg. The portions being shot now are critical to the narrative.”
Directed by Abhiraj Minawala, Mardaani 3 continues the legacy of the franchise, which previously tackled pressing social issues like human trafficking (Mardaani, 2014) and sexual assault (Mardaani 2, 2019). While the storyline of the third installment remains under wraps, insiders suggest that it will once again touch upon a hard-hitting and emotional subject.
Though the makers are yet to reveal the antagonist for this chapter, the announcement poster released in December 2024, on the anniversary of Mardaani 2, confirmed that the film will hit theatres in 2026. The poster featured Rani in her iconic police avatar and read,
“The wait is over! #RaniMukerji is back as the fierce Shivani Shivaji Roy in #Mardaani3. In cinemas 2026.”
In an earlier official statement, Rani expressed her excitement about returning to the role:
“It’s always special to wear the police uniform and play Shivani Shivaji Roy — a character that has only brought me love. I’m proud to essay this feisty cop again in Mardaani 3 as a tribute to all the unsung, brave, self-sacrificing cops who work tirelessly every single day to keep us safe.”
With the film already in production and anticipation building among fans, Mardaani 3 promises to be yet another powerful entry in the franchise — spotlighting justice, courage, and Rani Mukerji at her fiercest.
