New Delhi | April 23, 2025 — YouTuber and Bigg Boss OTT 2 winner Elvish Yadav has issued a formal apology to actress Chum Darang and the public after making racist and derogatory remarks during a recent podcast episode. The controversy erupted after Elvish mocked Chum’s name and appearance while discussing her work in Heeramandi, prompting backlash from viewers and officials alike.
The comments, made in conversation with guest Rajat Dalal, included remarks like, “Who would like Chum, bro? Who has such bad taste! Even her name is vulgar.” The statement was widely condemned, especially by the Arunachal Pradesh State Women’s Commission (APSWC), which filed a formal complaint to the National Commission for Women (NCW).
Summoned by the NCW, Yadav appeared at their Delhi office on April 22 and issued an apology, stating, “If people felt hurt by my words, then I must have said something wrong. I’ve submitted my apology, and I don’t hold anything personal against anyone.”
Chum Darang, a proud representative of Northeast India and a finalist in Bigg Boss 18, responded earlier by calling out the racial undertones in Yadav’s statements and urged influencers to be mindful of their words.
This incident has reignited conversations around racism, regional discrimination, and accountability of public figures in India’s digital and entertainment spaces.
