In a strategic move, the makers of Maalik, starring Rajkummar Rao, have postponed the film’s release to July 11, 2025. Initially slated to hit cinemas on June 20—the same day as Aamir Khan’s much-anticipated film Sitaare Zameen Par—Maalik will now enjoy a solo release window. The decision comes as a smart box office strategy to avoid a major clash between two high-profile films.
Rajkummar Rao took to Instagram on April 25 to announce the new release date, unveiling a poster that showcases him in a fierce gangster avatar. Dressed in rugged attire and holding a gun, the actor stands atop a vehicle, exuding dominance. The caption read, “Raub, Rutba, aur RAJ hoga Maalik ka, 11 July se.” The gritty look hints at an intense crime drama rooted in power struggles.
Directed by Pulkit and produced by Kumar Taurani and Jay Shewakramani, Maalik is a joint venture by Tips Films and Northern Lights Films. With its new date, the film now stands a better chance to attract undivided attention from audiences and critics alike.
On the other hand, Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par is confirmed for a June 20 release. The RS Prasanna directorial features Genelia Deshmukh and Darsheel Safary, and is described as a social dramedy with Aamir’s signature blend of “laughter, emotion, and drama.” According to sources, the film’s promotional strategy is already in motion, promising a heartfelt cinematic experience.
The revised schedule allows both films to thrive independently, avoiding divided footfalls and ensuring stronger box office potential for each.
